Salt Lake Temple

We all went to the Temple in Salt Lake last Saturday. Mike and I took turns doing a session each while the other took the kids around Temple Square and to the Church History Museum where they had an interactive exhibit just for kids called "I am a child of God." We all had a fun and spiritual experience. Polly- if you read this, it would be worth going to Temple Square with your kids. It's fun and interesting even if you aren't LDS!

MUniFest

Cassie went to Moab last weekend for the MUniFest, which is like the Fat Tire Festival but for unicycles. She had a lot of fun and got to meet one of her idols- Kris Holm, who is supposed to be one of the best off road unicyclists in the word and she got him to sign her helmet. (yes this is a sport, I was as surprised as you are.) Cassie has been riding her unicycle for a few years now and its how she and her friends get to and from school but this is the first time I've let her go to Moab with it.

Spring is Here!

The girls and I are all excited about spring.
We celebrated by baking these flower cupcakes
out of marshmallows and colored sugar.

How To Use Cloth Diapers

A lot of people think I'm crazy when they find out I use cloth diapers. They think it must be really inconvenient or messy. I've used them with 4 babies and am here to show you it's not any worse than using disposables.

Step one:
Just like changing any other diaper, get your stuff together.
Step 2:
There are lots of different styles of diapers to choose from. I like these Chinese pre-folds because they have a thicker more absorbent center. depending on the size, I fold the top part (that will go in the back) down a little.
Step 3:
This is a no brainer- put the baby on the diaper!
Step 4:
Fold the edges in to fit between the legs.
Step 5:
Bring the diaper up between the legs and fan the folded part back out a little so you will be able to pull it all together from the sides.
Step 6:
Bring the sides around to attach in front.
Step 7:
I've used pins before and they're ok. But I love these new things called "Snappi." They have little teeth that hook into the cloth to hold the diaper together with no fear of poking you or baby. And they work great!
Step 8:
Put on the water proof outer part. Again there are different styles to choose from. I like these classic nylon pull-on covers because they're cheep and in my experience, nothing works better.
Step 9:
You'll need to make sure all the cloth is tucked in, because this could be a source of leaks.

All Finished!!!

I've also tried these "all-in-one" diapers that go on just like a disposable. They work just as well but are a lot more expensive.

If the diaper is soiled, you'll need to rinse it out in the toilet. I bought a little sprayer that fits on the toilet for this purpose that sure makes it a lot easier. Laundering them is no different than washing towels or anything else that you have to do any way- no big deal. The only other draw back, if you look at it that way, is cloth diapers are less absorbent and have to be changed more often than disposables. I personally don't think it's a bad thing to change baby more often.
You can save tons of cash this way. Especially if you have more than one baby using the same set of diapers.
Here's the run down from tinytush.com-
6 pack Chinies pre-fold diapers (depending on size and cloth type)- $16.25-20.00
3 pack nylon pull-on covers- $11.21
3 pack snappi fastners- $6.50
Diaper sprayer for toilet- $39.95

Remember you only have to buy these things once. They should last through several babies! That beats throwing your money away on disposables that will still be in a land fill when your grandchildren are old!

Kite Flying

It was 70 degrees the other day here in Price, with a good brisk wind so we went out flying kites. We have the perfect spot a few blocks from home. It's a wide open field with no trees or power lines. I think spring might finally be here!

Daddy's Girl

Ember is getting bigger every day! Looking at Mike's baby pictures, she looks so much like her daddy! It would be nice if she'd start sleeping through the night. We've tried everything. Maybe it's from spending nine months working graveyards with mom!
